The Yarwun Alumina Refinery, near Gladstone, required improvements to the management and treatment of its stormwater discharges to eliminate discharge non-conformances of pH and Suspended Solids.

GANDEN investigated several options including catchment management, sulfuric acid dosing, carbon dioxide dosing, polymer dosing, artificial wetlands and modifications to first-flush catchments. This investigation led to a capital approvals process, tender design and documentation, detailed design and procurement, installation and commissioning managed by GANDEN. The installed equipment was successful in the site achieving stormwater quality compliance.
